Raheja Developers along with Hindustan Times organized CEO conclave in Gurgaon yesterday on “How to make Gurgaon a Real Millennium City”. The eminent panelist who participated in the conclave included Atul Singh, President & CEO, Coca Cola India Naresh Trehan, Chairman & MD, Medanta-The Medicity Raj Jain, President, Wal-Mart India Sanjay Kapoor, CEO Bharti Airtel Raman Roy, Chairman & MD, Quatrro BPO Solutions Rajesh Khullar, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon.All these top corporate honchos agreed that Gurgaon, with its soul, has the potential to outclass any other city in the World. They presented their opinions and suggestion how to deal with the current mismanagement of infrastructure in the city.
“ Citizen bodies should work with the police to help nab criminals and make Gurgaon a safer place” said Dr. Naresh Trehan , CMD, Medanta. He spoke about why he chose Gurgaon for his dream hospital. Despite Gurgaon being a millennium city, he stressed upon Government to take immediate steps to help citizens with improved infrastructure. According to Mr. Raman Roy, CMD, Quatrro BPO Solutions “Gurgaon has given a new meaning to 24X 7: power for only seven hours in a day”. He was frazzled with the power problem which is the single biggest worry for the corporate base of Gurgaon. Mr. Raj Jain, President, Wal-Mart India added that even though Gurgaon has managed to attract big corporate such as Coca Cola and Bharti Airtel, the day today life for a middle class person has become very difficult. As per his data, the city is 10-15% more costlier than Delhi. As perMr. Atul Singh, President and CEO, Coca Cola India, if the city will not be able to provide good enough reasons to stay than most businesses might decide to move to other locales. Mr. Sanjay Kapoor, CEO Bharti Airtel opined that the government could outsource development work to expedite infrastructure progress. But he did also appreciated the pace at which Gurgaon developed in the last 11 years and was the first city to have Malls.
Addressing the audience, MCG commissioner Rajesh Khullar gave a 5 point solution to city problems. He said “City not being on the river bank has a water problem and therefore, the citizens must have ethics to conserve water. Gurgaon residents should go and vote to elect right people. The city should have its bylaws and announced that Haryana will have more than surplus power by December 2011.
The conclave was concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. Navin Raheja, who thanked the dignitaries for sharing their views and encouraged everyone to participate and contribute to Gurgaon’s glory. He also thanked Hindustan Times for its initiative to help citizens of Gurgaon giving them an opportunity to have their own voice through their paper. He requested people of Gurgaon not to criticize the Government instead contribute to its growth and prosperity. He gave certain suggestions like zero discharge and water recycling, which we practice in all our projects to fight water problem. He also suggested single ticket system for Metros in Gurgaon like Delhi. For telecommunication, he suggested the feasibility of connecting the whole city through wi- max. For affordability in housing he stressed upon reducing the population density norms in Gurgaon so that a common man also afford to have a house in the city. He requested the Government to work in tandem and have a pragmatic approach in dealing with these serious issues of Gurgaon. At the end he gifted all the panelists and wished them good luck in their ventures.
