2nd International Meet on Corporate Social Responsibility

The 2nd International Meet on Corporate Social Responsibility innovation, Resurrection and Sustenance was conducted by Assocham at Hotel Lalit, New Delhi on July 15, 2010. Mr. Raheja, Chairman of Real Estate Committee Assocham gave the welcome address and started the meet with his ideas and opinion about the attempt to develop and establish CSR as a concept which is linked to strategic business management and the attempt to strengthen the interaction between the company and its stakeholders. He stressed that Partnerships or co-operation can help businesses improve their performance and reduce risks. Mr. Raheja highlighted certain major challenges such as a better understanding of the possibilities and limits for business contributions to sustainable development and to know more about the impacts on economic growth, social welfare and environmental protection. Secondly, how to spread Corporate Social Responsibility among the business community and how to convince the laggards and skeptics to encourage companies to go beyond their obligations, Last but not the least how to create greater transparency by developing Corporate Social Responsibility instruments and at the same time how to avoid it becoming a box-ticking exercise thus making us realize our individual responsibility of every corporate so that CSR in India too reach the levels of other developing nations.
Apart from him the other eminent speakers who spoke on the subject at the Conference included Mr. R. Bandyopadhyay, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate affairs, GOI, Mr.Arun Maira, Member, Planning Commission, GOI and Mr.Umang Das, MD, Srei Sehaj. Finally, the conference was concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. D.S.Rawat, secretary General,, Assocham.
